Types of Programs
Galaxy offers a variety of arts resources that are intended to provide unique and highly engaging experiences that enhance learning. Artist residencies, visits, workshops, and master-classes support instruction in classrooms, while performances and cultural field trips offer inspiration to larger groups of children.
Artist Residency:
A residency is when an artist “resides” in the school community for 10 or more days (5 or more for an ensemble), working in-depth with groups of students and/or teachers. Artist Residencies are tailored to the individual school’s curricular needs. (Benefits the entire school community.) Learn more about residencies.
Artist Visit:
Artists visit schools to introduce students and teachers to a variety of art forms, often connecting them to the school’s instructional program. Due to the short length (three consecutive 50-min. sessions), participatory activities may be limited. NOTE: At the M.S. and H.S. level, students can become more involved. (Benefits up to 180 participants.)
Artist Workshop: For K-6, elementary only.
Artists conduct “hands-on”, interactive workshops with different students and teachers during two consecutive 75-min. sessions. (Benefits up to 60 participants.)
Cultural Field Trip:
Several cultural opportunities to experience the visual and performing arts are made available through Galaxy’s relationship with PSU.
Galaxy Arts Night:
Galaxy Arts Nights offer schools an evening of family fun. Students and their parents can participate together in an original experience in the arts.
Master Class:
Artists work with one or more groups of students who would benefit from intensive study in a specific arts area (i.e. jazz ensemble, flute, strings, etc.). Sessions can vary in length, generally 1-2 hrs., and are tailored to the needs of the school.
Special Needs Visits and Workshops:
Several Galaxy artists are able to adapt their work to include this specific population of students. Educators with special needs students in their classroom should contact Galaxy for more information.
Performance:
Artists of dance, drama/theatre and music are available to perform for larger school groups. Performances generally last about 1 hour and include a Q & A period.
