Benefits of Participation

Galaxy’s primary goal is to offer students and their teachers high quality arts experiences in Dance, Creative Dramatics/Theatre, Music, Visual Arts, and the Literary Arts.  Programs are designed to expand the mind through the creative process, and provide a valuable resource for diversifying instruction across the curriculum.

Galaxy programs also support the PA Academic Standards and the PSSA’s.  Arts experiences have the ability to provide integrated curricular opportunities that help students develop, and subsequently increase, background knowledge and vocabulary in the key areas addressed by the PSSA’s.

Galaxy serves as the liaison between the artists listed in the annual Galaxy Arts Catalog and the schools, school districts, and communities that participate in Galaxy.  As a service-oriented program, Galaxy has a professional staff that selects and trains qualified artists to work in educational settings and handles all administrative tasks, including artist resource scheduling and business transactions.

Financially, Galaxy works to reduce school costs through fundraising and grants and by negotiating lower artist fees.  For instance, educators can compare the cost of hosting a grant-supported, 10-day Galaxy artist residency with the typically higher cost of bringing in a children’s author for just one day.  With Galaxy, schools get so much more for their money.

In addition, dollar-value “Arts Credits” are offered to each school annually to spend as money on artist visits, workshops and performances.  Galaxy also assists in designing and coordinating programs to meet a school’s individual needs.
